We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our dynamic team in Edmonton. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.


Job Summary

The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing daily financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and assisting in financial reporting. This position requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and a deep understanding of bookkeeping principles in Canada.


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Record Keeping

  • Maintain and update financial records using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Xero).
  • Record all financial transactions, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments, in a timely manner.
  • Prepare general ledger entries and maintain reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all financial transactions.

2. Bank and Account Reconciliation

  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions to ensure accuracy.
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve any outstanding items promptly.
  • Process month-end and year-end closing activities.

3. Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Manage accounts payable by processing vendor invoices, preparing payments, and tracking outstanding liabilities.
  • Handle accounts receivable by issuing invoices, tracking payments, and following up on outstanding receivables.
  • Process and verify expense reports and reimbursements.

4. Payroll Processing

  • Assist with payroll processing, including calculating employee hours, deductions, and benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta payroll regulations, including CRA remittances for payroll taxes.
  • Maintain payroll records and respond to employee payroll inquiries.

5. Tax Preparation and Compliance

  • Prepare and file GST/HST returns, corporate tax installments, and payroll remittances.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end tax filings and liaise with accountants for financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure all financial activities comply with Canadian tax regulations and accounting standards.

6. Financial Reporting

  • Generate financial reports such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on cost control and financial efficiency.

7. Client Support and Communication

  • Maintain strong client relationships by providing timely and professional financial support.
  • Address client inquiries related to bookkeeping, tax filings, and financial statements.
  • Collaborate with accountants and tax professionals to ensure seamless financial reporting.

8. Compliance and Regulatory Adherence

  • Stay updated on changes in Canadian accounting standards, tax laws, and industry regulations.
  • Ensure all financial records and processes comply with CRA guidelines and provincial regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (preferred but not mandatory).
  • 2+ years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a similar role.
  • Experience working in an accounting firm is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or other accounting software.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and CRA regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Sheets.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems (e.g., Wagepoint, ADP, or Ceridian).

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity.
