Senior Accountant
Job Description:
BOMCAS Canada, a leading accounting and tax services firm in Edmonton, Alberta, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our professional team. This role is ideal for an individual with extensive experience in financial reporting, tax compliance, and financial analysis. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing complex accounting tasks, supporting client financial needs, and ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting and tax regulations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing financial statements, overseeing tax filings, managing audits, and providing strategic financial insights. Key Responsibilities:
✅ Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and review financial statements, including profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights for budgeting, forecasting, and business strategy.
- Ensure all financial records comply with GAAP and IFRS.
✅ Tax Compliance & Filings:
- Oversee the preparation and filing of GST/HST returns, corporate tax returns (T2), and personal tax returns (T1).
- Ensure compliance with CRA regulations and keep up to date with changes in Canadian tax laws.
- Assist clients with tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities.
✅ Accounting Operations & Reconciliation:
- Oversee account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and financial transaction processing.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
✅ Audit & Compliance:
- Prepare for and manage internal and external audits.
- Ensure all financial activities adhere to accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist clients in CRA audit representation and provide documentation support.
✅ Client Advisory & Business Support:
- Provide financial consulting to small businesses and corporate clients.
- Support clients in budgeting, cash flow management, and business decision-making.
- Offer guidance on payroll, bookkeeping, and financial best practices.
✅ Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise and mentor junior accountants and accounting clerks.
- Provide training and guidance to support the professional growth of the team.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure seamless financial operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
✔ CPA designation (or actively pursuing CPA) is preferred.
✔ Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
✔ 5+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
✔ Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and CRA tax regulations.
✔ Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or other accounting software.
✔ Expertise in corporate tax returns, financial statement preparation, and audits.
✔ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
✔ Excellent communication and leadership abilities to work with clients and team members.
✔ Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity and professionalism.
