Tax Preparation Specialist in Edmonton
Job Description:
BOMCAS Canada, a leading accounting and tax services firm in Edmonton, Alberta, is looking for a Tax Preparation Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals with expertise in Canadian tax laws, tax compliance, and personal and corporate tax filing. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with CRA regulations, and providing tax planning advice.
The Tax Preparation Specialist will work closely with individuals, small businesses, and corporations to ensure accurate tax filings, maximize tax savings, and resolve tax-related issues. Key Responsibilities:
✅ Tax Return Preparation & Filing
- Prepare and file personal tax returns (T1) and corporate tax returns (T2) in compliance with CRA regulations.
- Complete GST/HST returns, payroll remittances, and other tax filings.
- Review financial records, receipts, and deductions to ensure accuracy in tax preparation.
- Assist clients with tax credits, deductions, and exemptions to optimize tax savings.
✅ Tax Compliance & CRA Liaison
- Ensure tax returns comply with Canadian tax laws and CRA regulations.
- Communicate with CRA on behalf of clients to address tax inquiries, audits, or reassessments.
- Assist in resolving tax discrepancies, late filings, and penalties.
✅ Tax Planning & Advisory
- Provide tax-saving strategies for individuals, small businesses, and corporations.
- Assist clients with year-end tax planning, retirement tax strategies, and investment tax considerations.
- Advise on capital gains, self-employment taxes, and tax-efficient corporate structuring.
✅ Financial & Business Tax Support
- Analyze financial statements for tax implications and business efficiency.
- Guide small business owners on tax obligations, payroll tax, and corporate tax structures.
- Provide training and support on bookkeeping best practices to maintain accurate tax records.
✅ Audit Support & Tax Dispute Resolution
- Assist clients in CRA audits, reviews, and tax dispute resolutions.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for compliance.
- Help businesses with SR&ED tax credits, tax incentives, and grants.
Qualifications & Experience:
✔ Diploma or degree in Accounting, Taxation, or Finance.
✔ CPA, CMA, CGA, or enrolled in a CPA program (preferred but not required).
✔ 2+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, or financial consulting.
✔ Proficiency in tax software (e.g., TaxCycle, Profile, CaseWare, UFile, Cantax).
✔ Strong knowledge of CRA regulations, GAAP, and corporate tax laws.
✔ Ability to analyze financial documents and identify tax opportunities.
✔ Excellent communication and problem-solving skills for client support and CRA interactions.
✔ Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines during tax season.
